Characteristics and main uses
Spinodal 96P® is a copper-nickel-tin alloy (CuNi9Sn6) featuring high mechanical strength and low thermal conductivity. This alloy is produced using powder metallurgy technology, like Ametek’s Pfinodal, enabling a fine and homogeneous microstructure as well as precise control of final properties.
Its high strength and excellent resistance to stress relaxation at elevated temperatures result from the spinodal decomposition mechanism. The combination of strength and formability is comparable to that of beryllium copper and copper-titanium alloys.
Main uses
Applications: The electronics industry uses CuNi9Sn6 for miniaturized springs, signal connectors, and EMI shielding.
In addition, its high strength allows Spinodal 96P® to be used for eyeglass frames and hinges, as well as for mechanical components in wristwatches.
